Description

The objective of this project is to design an aquatic drone that can collect floating trash from the surfacecomponents of rivers, lakes, seasmechanisms and oceans.structures The drone must be ablenecessary to performcreate thethis followingWIG activities:craft

  • CollectLightweight floatingbody trashshell frombetween the13 surfaceand 14 meters long
  • Composite wings consisting of thefixed water.area and movable folded America's Cup type wing sails
  • Crush or shred the collected trash and store it.
  • Bring it backHydrofoils to landallow wherefor thequick trash can be safely disposed.takeoff

Why this is important

PlasticThe technology to build this craft exists today. It is just a question of putting some money and trasheffort to bring various disciplines together. Battery powered electric airplanes that isare dumpedbeing proven now by Siemens and Rolls Royce and other smaller companies. Lightweight shell materials such as Kevlar. If the craft can be foundproduced, tested, and finished it must be obvious that the model would replace in ourgreat oceanspart the sailboat, yacht, and makemotorboat upmarket. aboutWho 40would percentwant ofa thesailboat world'sthat oceanplods surfaces.along There areat 5 distinctkilometres trashper patcheshour allwhen overone world.could Thebe biggestflying ofat them200 iskm theper Greathour Pacificwith Garbageno Patch (GPGP). Located halfway between California Hawaii, it is estimated to have 1.8 trillion pieces of floating plastic and weighs over 80,000 tons.

These plastics are not biodegradable and can stay up to 450 years as floating trash. They break down into microplastics due to sun's heat and wave movement and enter into the food chain of marine lifeforms. This is harmfulcost for the marine ecosystem and eventually will affect human and animal life on land.

What this project needs to move forward

We need these skills to move this project forward:

  • Mechanical/Structural Engineers - To design and build the structure of the drone.WIG craft, the various control mechanisms that should mostly operate on compressed air
  • Mechatronics/Electronics Major  - To design the circuitry forpurchase antennas, sensors for control and cameras.communications and some internal control systems.
  • Software and AI specialists - To designpurchase or adapt software that can drivefly the drone.craft on auto pilot.
  • MarineWing-sail biologyspecialist majors - To collaboratepurchase and studyadapt marineif life.necessary wing sails to serve as wings when folded and a sail when raised .
