[High Yield Rotary Hydroponics Garden] Desired Outcomes of this Project

Build a rotating, high-yield hydroponics system that can grow vegetables in the seapod.

Description

Hydroponics is the science of growing vegetables without soil, and using mineral nutrient solutions in an aqueous solvent such as sea water. Usually hydroponics systems are built using tubes. Water and nutrients are refreshed at different intervals of time. A large variety of vegetables are grown in tubes. Experiments have shown that the rate of growth of plants increases when a sapling is planted upside down. The roots spread wider and this increases the plant's growth rate.

Why this is important

Traditional farming and hydroponics systems that grow vegetables take up a lot of space. A rotating hydroponics system can be installed in a kitchen in compact space and can grow the basic and necessary vegetables in a shorter span.

What this project needs to move forward

A team of highly talented, skilled and motivated people who can hit the ground running. We need these skills to move this project forward:
  • Botany majors - To identify and suggest vegetables that are rich in nutrients and have higher growth rate.
  • Mechatronics/Structural engineers - to build the rotating hydroponics system.
